Call me
hearing ringtones
in my sleep
pop and hip-hop
calling sheep
texting friends
made online
we’d see the zoo
if we only had time
put down the phone
and look around
all the people
on the ground
they feel so strong
using thumbs
frantic feeds
damn they dumb
reading news
four g fast
inky fingers
lost to the past
nothing’s real
if it ain’t online
meet for dinner
if we only had time
put down the phone
and look around
all the people
on the ground
they feel so strong
using thumbs
frantic feeds
damn they dumb
what you mean
can’t upload
hold my calls
I’m about to explode
had enough
cannot connect
paid ninety bucks
last I checked
the more I pay
the less I get
too many plans
deeper in debt
hate my phone
it really sucks
maybe that one
is worth the bucks
yo
I got it
yah
I saw it
whatever
I read it
so
I don’t have time to read a hundred texts an hour
of course I love you
what
gotta go
call you later
yo
I got it
yah
I saw it
whatever
I read it
so
the projections don’t match the geopolitical realities of international relationships vis-à-vis currency manipulations, debt yields and commodity shortages. There is no way the suits will go for a half-assed presentation based on government stats and phoney bank ledgers. Buy low, sell high.
works
put down the phone
and look around
all the people
on the ground
they feel so strong
using thumbs
frantic feeds
damn they dumb

yeah, i just watch people all around me who are just addicted to their phones. it’s like living in a virtual world, walking around in a dream state. they need to get a life.
Long time no read. Thought I’d take a worthwhile call.
Oh, I agree. It needs to be put down, but then how to keep up with tweets and facebook and IMs and texts and emails and sports scores and and and . . . What would people do with all that solitude? Me, I just don’t want to be that “connected,” so I don’t subscribe to social networks or have emails sent to my phone. Hell, I’ve even been known to turn the damn thing off. Oh yes, silence. Now that’s a wonderful sound.
Nice piece of writing.
Feels weird to be online after taking a long break. Thanks for listening.
Call it the gadget syndrome!! The old fashioned simple life of reading news-on-paper, the inky fingers and meeting up for dinner have become so obsolete!! You have put it so well!! Now we know what we should be doing for some peace and quiet!!
I have to confess I’d be one of the dumb (and blind) you describe… Nonetheless I really enjoyed this, and especially noticed the rhythm which struck a cord with me. I’d call this a good poem, well worthy of the electronic media that helped me find it! *smile*
Welcome back, Brian. It’s good to read you again.
Thank you. Not possessing a cell phone feels quite liberating.
“Put down the phone and look around” — yes!
