“It’s sooooo nice to see you”

This week for One Single Impression the prompt is ‘Distractions’. For Sunday Scribblings the prompt is ‘Tradition’.

You can’t go wrong with the “The Twelve Pains of Christmas” song.

obligatory gift
knives sharpened with bonhomie
opening old wounds

sly conversation
tree decorated with past
unwrapping failures

genial laughter
gritting teeth and plastic smile
he’s not feeling well

The mandatory parties never live up to expectations–if you’ve gone out and bought clothes and stuff or do if you have done nothing. But this year I like to think that people will take just a bit more pleasure in their family and friend’s company. And that horrible office party? It’s a job

Been totally out of circulation and probably will be weaving in and out as I’m making a new life for myself

The poem is magnificent. Hope you and Diane have wonderful holidays

The song, the poem, witty reminders that all is not ho-ho-ho. So let go. Not everyone celebrates Christmas. And if you do, keep what you like, even if it’s the in-laws. And keep writing those poems!

    Hey Brother from another mother.

    Missed you and Rosy loads.
I had to be away for a while.

    How are you?

    As always wonderful post.

… and what exactly are you planning to do this Christmas? ;)

Thanks for the YouTube laugh! The poem is powerful. Sometimes fewer words really do express better.

Good luck with the holidays–I’m slogging through mine. Went to a yoga retreat for Thanksgiving and pretended that holiday didn’t even exist. I may have to make that a new yearly tradition! I can’t really escape during the Christmas-type holiday season, however, because my son’s birthday is New Year’s Day. Ah well.
