Thirteen Big Reasons to vote 3rd Party in 2008
For my 4th Thursday Thirteen.
13. Both Democrats and Republicans believe that BIG GOVERNMENT is better government.
12. Both Democrats and Republicans believe that BIG BUSINESS is too big to fail.
11. Both Democrats and Republicans believe that BIG DEFICITS are fine.
10. Both Democrats and Republicans believe that BIG DONORS set public policy.
9. Both Democrats and Republicans believe that BIG CONSUMPTION is healthy.
8. Both Democrats and Republicans believe that BIG OIL is all America needs for energy.
7. Both Democrats and Republicans believe that BIG MANDATES trump state’s rights.
6. Both Democrats and Republicans believe that BIG IDEAS are for little people.
5. Both Democrats and Republicans believe that BIG SPENDING is a Constitutional right.
4. Both Democrats and Republicans believe that BIG PRISONS make us safer.
3. Both Democrats and Republicans believe that BIG BOMBS make better neighbors.
2. Both Democrats and Republicans believe that BIG LIES go unnoticed.
1. Both Democrats and Republicans believe that BIG BROTHER is here to stay for good.
So if you don’t want to vote for John McCain but are a social and fiscal conservative, then the Libertarian Party of Bob Barr and Wayne Root or the Constitution Party of Chuck Baldwin and Darrell Castle might suit you better.
If you don’t want to vote for Barack Obama but you are a social and fiscal liberal, then the Green Party of Cynthia McKinney and Rosa Clemente or the Independent campaign of Ralph Nader and Matt Gonzalez might suit you better.
Of course if you are a social liberal and a fiscal conservative then you are out of luck again this year as in every year.
Speaking of luck I’ve been tracking Tropical Storm Hanna at this link here since August 28th and it appears that Hanna will skirt the Florida east coast to make landfall in Georgia or South Carolina.
I’ve also been tracking Hurricane Ike and Tropical Storm Josephine at this link here since September 1st and and Ike will be coming near Florida by Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. Josephine is still at least 12 to 14 days away.
P.S. I forget the biggest reason of all. In case you want an issue to vote about, how about the blackshirted thugs in Denver and St. Paul that call themselves police that arrest without cause and torture in jail.

A big post. Well said, as always.
Here here…it’s like something I hear from my husband many times a day. Deep thinking and truths for sure.
My T-13 is posted. Last one over to visit me is a rotten egg!
)
It’s an interesting time, that’s for sure. I wonder sometimes where we’ll end up – are people anesthetized enough to just let all this stand? will they wake up to the changing world? will America fall behind due to the fear of a larger, flatter world?
Sigh.
I’m glad to be here to watch it happen!
They dont have a chance though. I dont like either candidate running this year republican or democrat but if you dont vote for one, its a wasted ballot. No one else has ever been elected from a third party vote. Sad but true. If only……….Happy TT.

Bob Barr had my vote the moment he was selected as the Libertarian candidate. I love that we have a Lib party choice that is pro-life!
I have always been a loyal democrat and now that they couldn’t put up a candidate I can get behind, I am pretty disgusted at the whole darn thing. All that money and all that time, and Obama was the best they could do?
I will be voting for a 3rd party person this year, as I did in ‘04. But, I do believe that your reason #10 is clearly false.
10. Both Democrats and Republicans believe that BIG DONORS set public policy.
Big donors tend to donate to politicians who already support them. They donate money in order to help those politicians stay in office. Think about it this way. If donations were all that mattered, the abortion debate could be ended by pro-life groups donating enough money to buy the votes of liberal politicians, or pro-choice groups donating enough to conservative polticians. But, that’s not how it works. Pro-life groups give to conservatives, who already agree with them, and pro-choice groups give to liberals.
Unfortunately, the falsehood that big donors buy votes is what led to the McCain-Feingold bill that reduced average people’s ability to advocate for their causes. After all, we wouldn’t want too many average people to get together and form a big enough group to become a big donor–or so the argument goes.
Well written and a lot of it is true. Some of it I’m not so sure about, but I appreciate the effort. My left kidney for a country where a 3rd party candidate had a viable chance. Now having said that let me say that all it takes is for those of us who truly want change to stand together and make that change happen… As a social liberal and fiscal conservative I don’t see my views represented anywhere. happy TT
#13–I hope the next president changes that.
Is it raining there today from the latest hurricane?

“Freedom of the Press” anyone?
The Constitution of the United States of America
Bill of Rights
Amendment I: Freedom of speech, religion, press, petition and assembly.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
On this day the 19th of September in the year 2008 we hereby issue an invitation to affix your name upon the petition for a redress of grievances.
“The Use of Taxpayer Monies to Bailout Fraudulent Bankers Shall Be Prohibited”
The Citizens assembled of the Republic of the United States of America hereby declare to the Congress of the same that they shall not continue to raid the People’s Treasury to resolve the immoral and illegal practices of lenders and speculators in the Domestic and Foreign Markets. The Moral Hazard of private profits and public losses has resulted in an imbalance in the Treasury creating a deficit that threatens the foundations of this Republic. The duly elected servants of the People have betrayed the trust bestowed upon by the Founding Fathers and signatories of the Constitution of the United States of America by putting financial interests ahead of and to the detriment of the will of The People thereby forfeiting those positions of responsibility. We the signers of this petition strongly protest the fiscal malfeasance of those who have sworn to uphold the laws and protect the interests of The People and call on those individuals who will not cease the illegal raiding of the Treasury to resign forthwith. Those that stand against the tyranny of moneyed interests and with the taxpaying citizens of the Republic are hereby urged to hold fast against the immoral and shameful behavior of those seeking bailouts. We urge all that sign to copy and disseminate this petition as widely as possible throughout the Republic. Together we can restore the People’s interests.
