Are you a Fig?
One Single Impression ‘Resolve’ and I decided to write something again in the style of Rumi.
One of my longtime blog friends is Baraka of Rickshaw Diaries. Her recent post “Hold infinity in the palm of your hands” about the link between the Qur’an, figs and science. If you read her post first my poem will make more sense. More than any other blogger I read, Baraka’s posts touch me deep inside, the place where I am one with all.
“In time you may learn the truth”
The bee and the wasp
that blossom you so carelessly sunder from branch will now
not
not become fruit
The bee and the wasp
that blossom fluttering in breeze to the damp earth will now
rot
rot become soil
You see… nothing
nothing
but I do! the connection between God and us is not small, I understand that and I am truly sorry for yanking the blossom off but I do see what you see, the way that things are all interwoven and we are not separate after all.
You see… nothing
nothing
but I do!
Be Quiet
Be One
Be
A Fig

Two of my poems that were written with Rumi in mind.
I read the poem first, before going to read Baraka’s post, and coming back to read the poem again. The poem stands on its own and is independent. Bravo. The original essay does add a dimension, I think, that I’d have missed had I not understood why you wrote the poem.
What Rethabile said. Your poem stands on it’s own, and clearly reflects “that place where you are one with all.”
i believe in the synchronicity of nature,, as i can see it,, i can feel it,, it is real.. the god part… not so much…
what a beautiful rendering tho brian,, really well written…
I like that a lot, Brian! Well done. How I try to be a fig!
A great holistic truth there, my friend.
Excellently done!
While my center is the Bible, I definitely believe that we are all part of it all. We all play our part in the circle of life.
thought provoking. Thanks very much for introducing me to Rickshaw Diaries, definitely something to add to my regular reading.
Very nicely done; I’m a big Rumi fan as well.
Wonderful poem… deep and profound. Rumi is a good person to emulate. Thanks for pointing out the Rickshaw Diaries post. It was also beautiful.
Warm greetings of peace dear Brian,
One of the cool things about the blog world is meeting wonderful people, like yourself, reading something here and then having your thoughts inspire thoughts in me that I may never have had on my own. I love the interconnections!
Lovely poem!
Warmly,
Baraka
You have a very unique way of forming your poem and the repetition of the words ‘not’ and ‘rot’ made me stop in mid-read to contemplate the lines again.
You are doing Rumi proud..
Ruing
Very different type of poetry for me. I like it and learned a lot!
Thanks everyone for your comments on this post and on the Fay posts. We came through the storm with no problems at all. We don’t live in a floodplain and have good drainage even with heavy rain.
Diane is doing fine but I’m a but ‘off’ since Sunday. Going to try to take it easy this week at work and then we may go away this holiday weekend.
Ah, this is wonderfully image-full and complements the Rickshaw Diaries piece while retaining individuality and resolve. Great stuff! Glad to hear you are dry and out of the worst of Fay.
Very good. Thank you. As others have said, your writing does well on its own.
the blogging world is a beautiful place filled with wonderful writings that we are affected and thereby connected… amazing… it is the connection that is so important the acknowledgement of each other…. i too agree your poem stands on it’s own in a wonderful place of truth..
Thanks again for all your comments. Been busy this week and last week with work and the weather, so I haven’t been around much. Very hot this week as well.
Excellent. I read the post first then read your poem. Excellent.
