Rockin’ Chair Writers Prompt #2
For all previous prompts click here.
A big thank you once more for Rob for all his hard work in making the Writers Island a success and here’s to September 22nd and his return. In the meantime welcome to the Rockin’ Chair Writers group and weekly Friday prompts to energize your weekends. Why the name? Well, pull up a chair and sit a spell while I ’splain a few things.
You see, when I started blogging back in February of 2006 I was a writer. I’m still a writer and I’ll always be a writer. This here blog is my home, it’s where I express myself, stretch myself and meet all those marvelous, fabulous people out in the world. The front porch where y’all are right now are the pages up top below my blog name “Truth Is Freedom”. I talk about myself, about being a multiple personality, about my published novel “Real Magic” and even let you poke around my archives with the essential Brian and his top hits. The sidebars on the left and the right are my kitchen. Links to blogging friends, interesting websites, all my poetry in my poetry blog (about 500 poems) and lots of thumbnail pictures we’ve taken through the years. Categories, archives, search, more about my novel, a bit about Rose Dewy Knickers; it’s all there and it’s all good. My living room resides in the comments on every post. That’s where the party happens and the drinks flow and the conversations bring life to the words. My blog is my home and everyone is welcome.
But in our home, health is a constant concern. Having CFS means I use the weekends to recover from the week of working. Even though I work outside in the Florida heat and humidity, cold affects me much more and people are always surprised when I tell them that in the winter, it gets below freezing quite often. I love the summer heat, it makes me more open, the cold shrinks me into myself. My wife Diane is having a tough summer though, she’s sleeping up to 14 hours a day. For her the summer heat plays havoc on her medications, all ten of them, plus insulin. She’s had diabetes since she was seven years old and considering that was thirty-seven years ago, she’s very fortunate to still be alive. A lot of that has to with the fact that health insurance has always been a priority. In our twenty-one years of marriage, it’s been housing, transportation and then health insurance even when we had to forgo food. We understand though that being on an insulin pump has extended her life and stabilized her pending kidney failure. But not everyone can afford health insurance and the United States is the only First World country that does not have mandatory health insurance for children. If Diane’s parents had not had insurance she would have died before she was 10. What price life? It’s far cheaper to prevent complications than to treat symptoms.

Each week there will be two prompts for the Rockin’ Chair Writers. Prompt A will always be the same each week. It’s for those of you who want an optional prompt not a specific prompt. As such, any creative theme is welcome whether it be a poem, a video, a painting, an audio clip; anything is welcome here. Prompt B will be specific instructions about a topic of interest and again, any media is welcome to fulfill the prompt. You see I don’t believe that ‘writing’ only takes place in words on paper or a computer. Writing is a state of mind when you capture an image and bring it to life. When you post something on your blog, bring it to life for us. It doesn’t even have to be fresh. If you want to dust off something from the attic archives, please do.
Each week at 12:07 am East Coast time in the United States, the new post will be published. (Provided WordPress doesn’t forget.)
*****************************************************************************************************************
Prompt A is: “Tell us what’s really on your mind.”
Prompt B is: “If your blog is your home show us around.”
The Only Rules:
- Express from your heart.
- All prompts are optional.

on a personal note to brian,
We have a ’special needs’ house too, I know a little of what you go through. I am thankful for the ‘down times’ or I would never make it…you can read our special needs stats on my journal blog if you’re interested.
Hats off to you!
Please step this way for a guided tour of my home…
Brian, good luck and enjoy!

Happy weekend!
PROMPT A: I couldn’t possibly comment
PROMPT B: That’s the name of my blog
<3 u… have a wonderful weekend
You are so right, my love. I’d have died within years, if not months from diagnosis. At the time, I had an appointment with the Dr’s every 6 months – and that was under emergency circumstances! I had a tube of blood drawn every 3 months to change my meds, unless I went unconscious first!
You are my stabilizer, my reason for holding the ship steady. My life would be bleak without your love.
I love you more with every breath! Thank you.

Hi Brian, I pulled this one from my pub-poetry archive, it has been playing on my mind for some time now, anyway..

Have a fantastic weekend!
Here’s mine: The key to my blog.
This was a fun way to introduce a bit more of myself to those who’ve only seen the writing prompts up until now. Thanks Brian.
I’m back again now that I have the time to really focus on your post, the one behind the prompt. I love the way you describe the different “rooms” of your blog – particularly the kitchen as where the nitty gritty is located and the living room as the party room.
It sounds like life for you and Diane hasn’t always been easy, but it’s clear that your strong love and respect for each other is what sees you through.
Here’s my tour.

Looking forward to seeing you there.
Sounds like fun! I’ll double back in future weeks to see what’s here.
And I welcome you to check out SIMPLY SNICKERS (weekly poetry prompts) and MEME EXPRESS (daily blog prompts) . . . for ongoing inspiration as well.
Blessings,
Linda
