Carnival of Elitist Bastards

————————————————————————————
Hello and welcome to all of you searching for the Carnival of Elitist Bastards. Thank you for your interest. The official website of the Carnival is here and contains all the information and contact email along with a plethora of badges. The Carnival is hosted by a rotating number of bloggers and Carnival #1 is posted here at Dana’s blog. Carnival #2 is posted here at the home blog. My second post about the Constitution of the United States of America is posted here. I hope this helps speed you on your way, but read my stuff first.

Dana at her snarky blog is hosting the Carnival of Elitists Bastards (R-Rating). The genesis of this Carnival is the current American presidential campaign where the word ‘Elite’/'Elitist’ is now synonymous with the crap you pick on the bottom of your shoe when your neighbors don’t pick up after their dogs. Those of you that know me well will realize that the comment below is tongue-in-cheek and is an epithet directed at those who believe an elitist is precisely that; dog poop.
My comment at Dana’s blog when I first heard the term ‘Elite Bastard’.
“Hi Dana,
Saw your comment over at Paul’s blog and wandered into the crossfire.
Quite frankly, and call me an elitist, but a blog is hardly the height of intellectual discourse. I simply blog to remain in touch with the less, how shall we say, neuron blessed. Those that expound on the social mores of the day and then sit back and smugly count themselves as well-educated.
A true elitist would never stoop to admitting to a blog, or, even worse, Face Book. The sacred art of prose has been reduced to profane snippets of text that pass for witty and desirable conversation. Give me the scent of a fine cigar, the deep bite of brandy and the aged wisdom of persons who have spent a lifetime in pursuit of knowledge.
Let the unwashed masses pursue links and comments and the thrill of supposed blog buddies connecting in solidarity. These little issues will remain that, little, but we elitists will remain above the fray and instead exercise our minds in esoteric themes.
Sincerely,
Brian aka hummingbunny”
Paul’s Internet Cafe is one of those watering holes where the elites like to gather and have intelligent discussions about issues across the spectrum of human experience. He has always had comments that are civil and deal with the topic at hand, even when commentators have differing views.
A comment from me on a recent post of Paul’s.“Interesting thoughts Paul. As one of your regular readers, but not commentators, I don’t consider myself an elite. Primarily because reading the daily newspaper, following current events via the internet and reading three or more books every week is normal to me. I love knowledge for knowledge’s sake and I enjoy expanding my mind. Just because I write poetry and post pictures of kittens and flowers rather than expound on the critical issues of day, also doesn’t mean that I’m not an elite.
I detest labels because labels are/have and always will be used to divide and conquer societies. The question that I have always had is why do so many people prefer to live in ignorance and fear? I’m a student of history, but by no means a complete history, but one lesson is clear.
Democracy and freedom is a rare and precious thing and the death of that freedom will come if we cannot resolve to accept our differences and work together to solve the great issues of our times. Energy, food, environment, disease; if we don’t step up and focus our talents and passion on the world as a whole, then we will all fall into the mud together.
Being an elite doesn’t mean knowing more than someone else, it should mean doing more with that knowledge to affect positive change for all.”
At the Writers Island we have three prompts for this week and great words indeed for an Elitist Bastard. I shall surrender to my base impulse and write from my heart.
I do not consider myself an Elite or a Bastard. I am however a Multiple Personality and I have never been happier in our entire life. For those of you I’ve been fortunate enough to meet in person, the Brian you have met is vastly different from the man who was before realizing the truth about himself. It has been the greatest liberation you could possibly imagine to be free of the terror and doubt that clouded my mind for decades. For those of you fortunate enough to meet the strongest of the other personalities inside me know that Rose is a very unique woman. She’s laughing her head off at the thought of being called an Elite Bastard/Bitch. She is the most practical and earthy person I’ve ever known. Some of her friends know why she’s not blogging anymore. Instead she’s writing books. Two of them to be precise and she’s determined to find an agent and then get published.
I love Rose… and Bernard, and Sable, and Pit Bull and Little Brian. Ewwwww!! Man hugs!!!!!
It would be a betrayal of all I espouse to turn my back on the others inside, we are one, we are strong, but we are not elite. I also love my wife Diane and with 21 years of marriage approaching we love each other more than ever. We are a family together, along with our cats and our close friends. I will never apologize or feel awkward for expressing my love for those that I care about. That includes you who come here to my blog.
“Ignorance is a Lifestyle Choice” was a post I did on 4/17/08 and could qualify for Elite Bastard status. That is, in this post I bemoan the current culture that wears ‘Ignorance’ as a badge of honor. This badge is given out to liberals and conservatives, the religious and the atheist, the rich and the poor, the celebrity and the farmer, the blogger and the illiterate, the athlete and the saint. Don’t want this badge but you’re also not an elite bastard? All right, here’s what you do.
“I ___________ do solemnly swear that I am not ignorant. I promise not to tell you how to pray. I promise to respect your belief or non-belief in God, heaven or any other religion/faith/wild guess. I promise not to tell you what to wear. I promise not to call you by a racial slur. I promise not to tell a woman how and when to reproduce. I promise to keep my comfort level out of your sexual practices. I promise not to blame the problems on the world on homosexuals. I promise not to blame the wealthy for all the problems in the world. I promise to reward my employees with generous pay and benefits before paying stockholders. I promise not to seek excessive profits for food and essentials. I promise not to blame the homeless for being homeless. I promise not to keep locking up non-violent drug users and not the real criminals who murder and rape and destroy societies. I promise not to blame athletes and celebrities for earning a share of entertainment profits that the public willingly donates. I promise to keep religion and science separate and acknowledge that no one has all the answers. I promise to not stop looking for those answers. I promise to use my knowledge to benefit others. I promise to consider my impact on the world beyond the space called me. I promise that I will thank all those who keep us safe. I promise to use common courtesy and manners in my dealings with others. I promise to stop seeking short-term gratification and start seeking long-term solutions. I promise to banish the word them from my vocabulary. I promise not to abuse my children. I promise to listen and learn from others who are experts. I promise to accept that owning a gun is a right. I promise not to abuse the right of free speech by demonizing those that are living differently. I promise to seek justice for victims of violent crime. I promise to expose abuses of power. I promise to have no tolerance for those who rape. I promise to demand respect from others and give respect to others.
In other words. I promise to live in harmony with others and to work together to build a better world.
Btw. I am also not naive. I weep copious and bitter tears for the billions who have been slaughtered throughout human history. I weep copious and bitter tears for the billions of women who have been raped throughout history. I weep copious and bitter tears for the evil wrought in God’s name throughout history. I weep copious and joyous tears for the beauty that human beings have created throughout human history. I weep copious and joyous tears for the free will to love. Thank you God.

And the reasons for those acts that bring the tears, Brian, are invariably caused by elites, or those who claim to be, but are impaled through the a*** by the spike on top of their ivory tower
well you know brian,, i more or less like being that friend you have in low places.. i like being expected to disappear or fuck up or just plain disappoint the shit out of you,, as that takes all the pressure off… so i’m thinking,, maybe the word elitist and paisley should not appear in the same sentence…..and i better just stay the hell over here on the wrong side of the tracks and allow the true elitists their 15 minutes…
you are elite in my book,, tho’… but then again,, i don’t know how much of a compliment that really is….LOL!!!
Anthony I’m not sure if Genghis Khan was an elite. On second thought, he most definitely was an elite.
That is my point though, if you treat people with respect, the world can be a better place.
But Paisley, that’s exactly my point. I like having you as a friend and I don’t care if you’re on the right side, the wrong side or tied to the tracks.
I know you’re a good person and that’s all that matters.
((((((Hugs)))))
you blow me away my elite… sorry, best friend,
but all those promises, so altruistic and perfect
yet as much as I feel the same, with hand on heart
I’m not sure I could keep each and every one of them;
you’d have to be pretty elite, like a top guy, to top
that
This is the point. You know some people are good people, whereas some people know THEY are good people.
I’m with you. Friends are what they are, and you’re a friend if you accept, and respect that.
doh… that’s odd, my avatar didn’t
appear when I commented… hmmmmm!!!!!!
oh, do you think it’s ‘cos I opened up your
blog from the link on your email?
p.s. I forgot to say that your comment on
Dana’s blog had me in stitches
Just my self-righteous opinion here: anybody looking for a way to hold anybody else down or back fits into the category of “bully” at the least and “terrorist” at the worst.
((((Ann)))))
I would never say that I live those promises because I fall short every day. I’m human and I make tons of mistakes. But I try to never hurt someone deliberately or think of myself as better than thou. You weren’t signed in to WP so you got your cute pattern avatar instead.
Anthony I consider you a friend. Even though we have some similar interests, we have many more differences. But we both respect the process of thought and the power of the idea. But we also are realists and too often power is abused.
Hi Quill. I agree, but that applies to an awful lot of people don’t you think?
Interesting thoughts. I wish I could say I was surprised in such a carnival, but alas, I’m not. You go Brian – I’ve only just cyber met you, but I like you just the way you are.
BTW – I did want to comment on your comment of “I weep for women that have been raped” – I know it’s not a popular thing to say, but men/boys get raped too. Maybe not as commonly, but the damage is done. Just my two cents. I think it’s a vile act, no matter who it’s done to, and in what spirit it’s done in, as rape is more about power than anything else.
Oh yeah – and about those multiple personalities…. I knew there was something quirky about you! Tell Rose good luck with that book. I’m submitting my children’s book to a new publisher – I got my first rejection notice! Bring out the bubbly – one closer to publication!
Hi Texas and thank you. I understand you’ve jumped in the middle of my story so to speak and it may seem a bit ‘quirky’ at times. By all means plunder the archives. The tab at top has the “Best Of”.
As for the boys being raped, I know that. We all know that. That’s ‘probably’ how my multiple personalities were born. I have no memories of being raped and if there are any, Little Brian and Sable won’t say anything. That’s their decision and we respect that.
Thanks for jumping in the fray here.
Good luck with the book.
P.S. I’m not upset with you Texas in any way. I love being quirky.
Brian, I always knew you were highly intelligent (no, I am not labeling you as elitist!
) but after reading this post and your comment on Paul’s blog, I realise that you are a very wise man as well. I love these words of yours:
bravo Brian.
Thank you Nita. I have found that blogging has expanded my world far beyond what I thought I knew from reading books. No matter where in the world people live, they all have similar emotions and desires. I’ve learned a lot about myself by seeing how others live.
Aniin BG.
Thank you.
Not up to speed with your previous stuff, but I like your style. I will take a little time to explore, if I may.
Beautiful sentiments, and I wish more of us could live up to them. Including myself, but damn it, the last eight years have turned me into a curmudgeon.
I still dream of a world where differences are no more than quibbles, no more important than foibles, and where the need to be right doesn’t lead to bloodshed.
Welcome Stan, explore away. The special pages are up top and the monthly archives and categories are to the right.
Welcome Dana. There is a cure for being a curmudgeon, but that’s an elitist cure. I changed a few words here and there, but I like the term elite better. Does that make me an elitist? Besides, if you think that the last eight years have been bad, you haven’t been reading enough history. Read about the Eastern Front sometime, that’ll give you nightmares.
You probably know, Brian, that I both want to run and hide and get out there and fight relentlessly for everyone’s right to be themselves, and one of my promises is to do more of the latter. I do live by the Golden Rule – or try to, self-perfection is not here yet.
The Golden Rule is the short version of your I promise paragraph. Would be nice if we could get by only sharing the former, but for many the detailed version is a necessity to understand completely. Well said, Brian.
And thanks for the extra hugs!!!!
Brian, this was a powerful post that really made me think of how I could do better. Bravo!
HUGS
I really think you are a special man and I hope to get to know Rose much better when she returns. I see you both separately and needed the reminder you are all a family.
((((((Marcia))))))
Have some more.
I sure hope the traffic God stops testing you.
((((Tammy))))
Thank you and Rose thanks you.
There is much to be said for living in harmony with life. Out here in the Bitter Hinterlands though, if it ain’t paved, it’s worthless. But it’s fun poking holes in pompous fools.
Not sure which one of you to address this to but bravo!
Ignorance is dangerous to the self and to society. And in my mind therefore deliberate ignorance is evil. Back in Tennessee I used to hear some real backwoods preachers on the radio, and they celebrated ignorance. One said; “Lord, I thank thee that I am iggerant as a hawg” I’m not making fun of him, that’s exactly how he pronounced it. But that was 30 years ago and surely the message of “ignorance as virtue” hasn’t gone mainstream, has it?
Welcome Bitter and hope you can return.
Welcome Gawiman and thank you. Yes ignorance not only has gone mainstream, but full frontal.
