Seed Porn
Cafe Writing February prompts about love of gardens. Anyone who gets catalogs in the mail will understand the title of this post and the poem I wrote.
Option Five: Poetry
From December to March, there are for many of
us three gardens:
the garden outdoors,
the garden of pots and bowls in the house,
and the garden of the mind’s eye.
- Katherine S. White
Using the quotation above as your inspiration, write a poem (any form is fine) about gardens.
“Dirty Hands”
the pallid drifts cover my garden, the Full
Snow Moon and
rainbow crystals, the
deep longing for
green
wait for restless children to sleep, the Full
Snow Moon and
glossy pages, the
deep longing for
green
trembling hand caresses pictures, the Full
Snow Moon and
packet seeds, the
deep longing for
green
racing heart sees exotic forms, the Full
Snow Moon and
blooming bush, the
deep longing for
green
exhilaration in correct zone, the Full
Snow Moon and
furtive call, the
deep longing for
green
impatiently wait special delivery, the Full
Snow Moon and
fragrant hope, the
deep longing for
green
dripping ice lengthening sun, the Full
Worm Moon and
robins call, the
deep longing for
green
working soil tender treasure, the Full
Pink Moon and
dirty hands, the
deep longing for
green

Morning Paisley. No it’s no specific form, I just wrote it that way. Living in Florida it’s green year round and you can buy flowers and plants anytime at the garden centers. However, my memories are of deep snow and spring fever. The many catalogs in the mail that promise a lush garden for everyone.
brian,, this is entrancing.. is this a specific form,, or did you just write it in such a way that i feel like it should be a recognized for,… i am sooo not a good gardener… i tried with veggies last year from the first time,, since i have always said i wanted to have a garden at least once in my life… well i have had one… and huh uh no… it isn’t for me… maybe i ought to try flowers…..hmmmmm…..
great flowing words Brian!
“the
deep longing for
green”
I know all too well. I cannot grow a garden successfully. I can do houseplants but Im not much good at the great outdoor plants…what gives?!?!
Aniin BG. It takes so much effort to grow a garden. We are fooled by the ease that weeds grow.
I’ll be thinking about Wee One.
The whole time I lived in Vegas I had a deep longing for green. Nicely done, Brian.
OoOOhh…I love this! Sooo…intense…yet soothing, all at once…
Wonderful, Brian.
While snow is falling here, I’m dreaming of getting outside and digging around in the garden. The seed catalogs are just beginning to arrive.
Afternoon. For some reason WP is very slow for me today.
Quill, that’s no a problem where you live now.
(((((((((((DB)))))))))
You’re dreaming of green… I know you are.
Robin, those catalogs are wicked, wicked I tell you!
OH! This is perfect. We’re just about to start planting so this goes right along with how I feel. Very beautiful.
((((((Pinky)))))))
You are feeling so good right now. Happy thoughts back at ya.
I like the structure to this and hjow you use repitition to give us a flavour of the obsession….
Excellent, as always. Soon be gardening myself. Hopefully I’ll be able to keep on top of it this year.
I usually fail, sadly.
Thank you Crafty, I thought the repetition would distract, but it makes the poem stronger.
Anthony, you are too kind. I fail too, only because I have no time to spare.
Happy Thurssy Brian!! one day closer to the weekend
Have a great day.
