Love In A Re-fri-ger-a-tor
Sunday Scribblings has a strange prompt this week, “Fridge Space”. When combined with Cafe Writing and the list of February prompts about love, it yields an interesting story.
Option Six(Cafe Writing): Fiction
You have to walk carefully in the beginning of love; the running across fields into your lover’s arms can only come later when you’re sure they won’t laugh if you trip.
~Jonathan Carroll, Outside the Dog Museum
Write a short story, scene, or piece of flash-fiction about the beginning of love.
“Gourmet Love”
There was something strange about her, glimpsed in brief flashes. Her smell, ripe and sharp, clashed with sweet and tart. Not the usual fare sampled here, she was an exotic, pampered and wrapped. All that day he saw her and yearned to get closer. Others came and went but he was waiting for his big chance.
The next night, it happened. A space was created and he found himself placed right next to his obsession. He was so close he could almost touch her, but he strained to no avail. She was turned away, facing the door and ignored his silent entreaties. He felt crushed, unrequited love seemed to be his fate.
Muffled music, bright laughter, the refrigerator opened wide. Many hands reached in and pulled out bottles and containers, then her. She was gone, he was left behind. Darkness covered him. Sudden vertigo, a strange place, high on a cliff, but there she was, revealed at last in her naked glory. Firm and plump, yet sleek and shiny, he fairly burst with anticipation when laid down next to her.
Even when the cold steel knives sliced into his body, he reveled when she in turn was cut into blocks and then speared. Yes, he cried, when he felt his slices envelope her cubed forms and be in turn skewered. Lifted towards an open mouth, he felt the sharp snap of teeth and then, blissful oblivion.
“Mmmmmm. This is sooooo good! Goat cheese wrapped in salmon! I love this!”

I may have a Writers Island post later with the prompt “Changed”.
Have a great weekend everyone.
The title to this post is of course a spoof of the Aerosmith song, “Love in an elevator”
Nicely done, Brian. You started my day with a smile.
Ah, L O L!!!! Love it!
Smoked salmon can make LIVER taste good! Goat cheese is wonderful in and of itself. Quite the tasty combo, coming from a veggie! LOL
Love the drama and longing.
OXOX D
What an macabre ending! I love such twisted ones!
Today I got here from Michele. But you know I would have done that anyway.
I posted for changed. Fridge Space comes later. Can’t think of any!
Very creative!
Hi Quill. Then I’ve done my job.
(((((((Diane)))))
Who knew what went on behind closed doors.
Gautami, I never would have guessed that about you.
Thank you Literary, is your name a vocation?
That was a delicious story. Who knew that two lovers would meat like this.
Michele sent me.
Cute!
Now what is a hummingbunny?
By the way, Michele sent me.
I knew it was going to be some kind of cheese! I was picturing something French though – all runny and sensual.
I’ve been a bit laggardly in following Sunday Scribblings and the other prompts lately, but I enjoyed this one. Michele sent me.
Thanks everyone from Michelle’s for stopping by today. I normally take the weekend off from blogging, but I may check in once in awhile.
Welcome Jon, like I said, the mysterious lives of fridge foods.
Welcome Chana, a hummingbunny? That is a strange tail.
Mais oui Robin, I am a French goat, so you are correct… at least on the sensual side.
Hi Catherine, good to see you again. Thanks.
quite the scrumptious little story Brian about the love of my life…
… food
::said rubbing fat tummy and licking lips::
Brian this was a delightful and sensual take on a very unusual prompt. Bravo! XXOO

HUGS
Hi Brian,
I suspected something fishy. A delicious tale
I like smoked salmon (guess it’s the redmans blood in me) and I also like goat cheese. Wee One can eat it w/ out any allergies…we call it ’squeaky cheese’ because it squeaks. Never tried those 2 together though!
lol, I enjoyed this!
Happy Saturday my friend. ((hugs))
Hey Brian. Just popped over to say hello and to see what creativeness is happening here today.
(Barngoddess: I tried to smoke salmon but I can’t get it wrapped up in theose little papers to light it.)
Just kidding. I smoke it without the papers.
I was trying to work out what combination we were working towards, but didn’t figure it out. Love goat’s cheese. If that was smoked salmon, though, I’m afraid I’d say no thanks. Great take on the prompt.
Brian,
Read this Friday at work, but couldn’t make the commenty thing work. Anyway, thought this piece quite clever and very Brianish in an imaginative way.
Nice job bud!

Interesting . . . very interesting
Good Monday morning everyone, thanks for swinging by over the weekend. So did lots of spammers, as you can see to the left, I’m now over 50,000 spam comments.

Have a safe trip and we pray that she makes a full recovery.
(((((Tammy)))))
Thanks for lovely comment and enthusiastic endorsement.
Anthony, your keen sense of smell sniffed out the hook.
Aniin BG, I had a decent weekend all things considered. No salmon or cheese though.
Hi Swampy, thanks for flying by in the cloud of smoke.
Welcome back Imelda, I think it was fresh salmon.
Rel, I guess I now have a reputation for strange poetry.
Thank you Cricket.
I was practically drooling. Fabulous twisted ending! I mean, I’ve already forgotten about the title until I got to the very end, and I was like “Duh! Of course!!”
Hi Lotus, sorry about the drool, I’ll provide a napkin next time.
Wow! Who’da thought all of that was going on in the fridge? lol Love your twist on the fridge space theme! ;o)
